Warthogs
Bush Camp, Kariba....
owned and run by Cameron Harvey
Safaris
Warthogs is a small, friendly and secluded camp just outside
Kariba town. The land was once
a
fish farm and the camp is named after the farm. Positioned among mature Mopane
scrub on the shores of Lake Kariba, it’s a natural retreat for
groups and overland trucks. It is situated within the only game corridor for
some kilometers and as such often provides some unscheduled, ‘close-up’ game
viewing.
The accommodation comes in the form
of 8 thatched double, ‘A’ frame bashas and one bamboo and thatch room for a
family.
The
bashas are designed to provide an ample sleeping area for a couple and their
luggage. They are raised off the ground to keep them cool and bug free. We
also offer limited space for camping. Double mattresses, mosquito nets, bedding
and lock-up trunks are provided in each basha. The family unit has 4
single beds.
There are hot/cold showers and ladies and gents toilets. And although we are situated right next to billions of gallons of lake water, the camp water supply is actually municipal and is therefore perfectly safe to drink.
There’s a large central kitchen/dining room and braai area for cooking, plus other small braai areas around the camp for those that wish to do their own thing. The camp has a supply of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans for your use.
For the energetic we
have a floodlit volleyball pitch....however, please take note; hippos have total
right of way during any game! No camp is complete without
a swimming pool and although ours is not of Olympic proportions it's a welcome
cooler, especially in the summer months.
Nearby is The
Giraffe’s Head - the camp's bar and game viewing platform. We will soon be
opening
an internet
booth here. The bar
runs on a ticket system. We also sell basic items such as braai packs,
tea, soup and cigarettes. There is a phone available if people want to phone for
taxis, doctors etc or organise activities.
