ABOUT US

Welcome to the world of Ian and Louisa Harvey, a brother/sister team originally from England but embedded in Zimbabwe for the last 17 years. We have both been involved in Southern African tourism for most of our lives: 20 years as the tourist and 15 years as the operator so we've been on both sides of the fence! We have a passion for wildlife and Zimbabwe and we strive to offer our guests a safari that is second to none.

Cameron Harvey Safaris was registered 15 years ago and we plan on still being here to hand the reins over to this little fella in another 15 years or so's time. For now, we just let him help out!

ABOUT ZIMBABWE

Climate:

Zimbabwe is the landlocked heart of Southern Africa.  This magnificent country, over 30,000sq. kms, lies entirely in the tropics.  However the climate is surprisingly temperate.  At an average of 900 metres above sea level the country enjoys warm, dry, sunny days and cool clear nights from May to October.  From November to April the rains fall in brief downpours and dramatic electrical storms, bringing the land to life with vibrant colours.

Landscape:

A low ridge bisects the country running North-East to South-West.  The North of the country steps down in a series of abrupt plateaus to the broad Zambezi Valley and Lake Kariba.

The landscape is epitomized by bushveld and rocky outcrops.  In the South the dry sprawling lowveld fades into the distance towards the great Limpopo River.  In contrast to these rocky savannas are the majestic mountain ranges of Mavuradohna, Chimanimani and the Eastern Highlands.

More Useful Information on ZIMBABWE
Fuel:

Sourcing fuel can be a work of art.  There is usually plenty of it around but a petrol station is not always a likely place to find it. Fortunately we know where you can find it and if you are lucky enough to be one of our clients you can take it off your "jobs to do list" because it is all part of our service to you.  For example......if you are on a tailor made safari then finding fuel will not be your problem.  If you are on a self drive safari then we can purchase fuel in advance for you to carry.  Don't worry about siphoning, it's kids's play here in Zim.  In need there is always someone nearby willing to help out.

Economy/Currency:

Our money was something that took a bit of getting used to.  However, we ignored it for a while and eventually it went away and now United States Dollars (US$) and the South African Rand (SAR) is legally accepted countrywide. This has resulted in a sudden bloom of products in the shops and those once empty shelves are now filling up fast, so we can now go back to shopping rather than bargaining.  But anyway, if you are on a tailor made safari then you only have to look after cash if you want some spending money for curios, presents and extras, because all our safaris are fully inclusive of food, transport, accommodation and specified activities.

Weather:

We are heading into our cool Winter.  The warm rains of summer and bright sunny days of spring have brought life to every corner of the country.  The bougainvillea shrubs are bursting with colour and the animals are preparing for the pitter-patter of tiny feet.  But temperatures are dropping now (May onwards) and the nights have a nip in the air.

Wildlife:

July to November is the time for the very best in game viewing.  The water sources are concentrated and therefore so is the game.  There have been the most fantastic sighting of Lion, Leopard and Wild Dog in our National Parks and, for ourselves at Warthogs Bush Camp,  the Elephants and Zebras insist on coming to meet our guests on a regular basis.
